Champion of Islam at the Expense of Britain’s Christian Heritage: Charles Praises Islam’s ‘Priceless Gift’ While Ignoring Its Commands for Domination, Subjugation and Violence

Introduction

King Charles III, both as Prince of Wales and now as King, has shown a consistent and deep commitment to Islam and Muslim communities. This focus goes beyond general interfaith dialogue. It gives Islam special praise and priority. His actions and words highlight Islamic wisdom and heritage in ways not matched for any other faith. He has spoken negatively of the West in comparison to Islam. This pattern contrasts sharply with his limited attention to Christianity. It is wholly at odds with his role as Prince of Wales and now as monarch. It represents a clear failure to fulfil his Coronation Oath as Sovereign of a Christian nation.

Early Commitment as Prince of Wales

As Prince of Wales, Charles became Patron of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies in 1993. He delivered a landmark speech titled “Islam and the West” at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford on 27 October 1993. In it, he praised Islamic civilisation for preserving classical knowledge and contributing to science, medicine, and architecture. He stressed shared values such as justice and compassion. He called for greater understanding between Islam and the West. He spoke negatively of the West, noting Western misunderstandings of Islam and suggesting that Islam could teach the West a better way of living.

In 2010, he returned to the same venue for the speech “Islam and the Environment”. He described the Islamic world as custodian of “one of the greatest treasuries of accumulated wisdom and spiritual knowledge”. He called this heritage a “priceless gift” to humanity, often obscured by the “dominant drive towards Western materialism – the feeling that to be truly ‘modern’ you have to ape the West”.

Patronage and Institutional Support

Charles has remained Patron of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies for over thirty years. In July 2025, as King, he visited the Centre to mark its 40th anniversary. He opened the new King Charles III Wing and launched the King Charles III Programme, which includes fellowships and leadership initiatives for young Muslims. He opened his remarks with “Assalamu Alaikum”. These steps show ongoing, specific support for Islam in Britain.

Practical Support for Muslims as King

As King, Charles has taken visible steps to support Islam and Muslims. In February 2025, he and Queen Camilla visited a restaurant in London ahead of Ramadan. They helped pack biryani rice and dates into food boxes for iftar meals donated to hospitals. In March 2025, he authorised the first open iftar in Windsor Castle’s 1,000-year history. Over 350 guests broke their fast in St George’s Hall. Buckingham Palace has issued prominent Ramadan messages each year, including in 2026. These opened with “As-salaamu alaikum. Ramadan Mubarak” and praised Muslim contributions to British society. Eid greetings have also been sent regularly. In 2026, a full Ramadan greeting was issued while no traditional Easter message appeared.

These actions single out Islam and Muslims for special practical and symbolic honour.

Contrast with Attention to Christianity

Charles has given no comparable specific attention or praise to Christianity or Christians. His Christmas broadcasts focus on shared values across “all the great faiths”. They speak of diversity, compassion, and hope found in many religions rather than the unique message of Christ or the Christian gospel. Critics note that multi-faith themes dominate, with little emphasis on Christianity alone.

No dedicated Christian events or institutions receive the same level of personal patronage or public endorsement as the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies.

Omission at the Nigerian State Banquet

In March 2026, Charles hosted a state banquet at Windsor Castle for Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He spoke warmly of UK-Nigeria ties and religious diversity. He met interfaith leaders. Yet he made no mention of the severe persecution of Christians in Nigeria. Fulani jihadists, Boko Haram, and others have killed thousands of Christians annually in what many describe as genocide. This silence drew sharp criticism, given his role as Head of the Church of England.

Islam as a Religion of Peace? Global Realities

Charles has long portrayed Islam as a religion of peace, tolerance, and shared values. Yet this claim is false. Islam, as set out in its foundational text the Quran and the Hadiths, is an ideology of world domination. It demands the establishment of a global Caliphate, the imposition of Sharia Law, and the subjugation of non-Muslims: convert, pay the jizya tax, or be killed. This is not about individuals but the clear commands in the book itself, with no room for manoeuvre.

Quran 9:29 states: “Fight those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day, nor comply with what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, nor embrace the religion of truth from among those who were given the Scripture, until they pay the tax [jizya], willingly submitting, fully humbled.” Quran 9:5 commands: “But once the Sacred Months have passed, kill the polytheists wherever you find them, capture them, besiege them, and lie in wait for them on every way.” Quran 8:39 adds: “Fight them until there is no more fitnah and until worship is for Allah alone.”

The Hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari 6922 declares: “Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.” On women, Quran 4:34 instructs: “As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct… beat them (lightly).” On dogs, the Hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari 3225 states: “The angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog.” Enslavement of non-Muslims is permitted in Quran 23:5-6 and 4:24, which allow sexual relations with “those whom your right hands possess” – war captives and slaves.

Lying is sanctioned through taqiyya in Quran 3:28 and 16:106, with the Hadith “War is deceit” (Sahih al-Bukhari). Islamic scholars further teach that a Muslim man married to a non-Muslim wife (from the People of the Book) must hate her for her disbelief, even while loving her as a wife, in line with loving and hating for the sake of Allah.

This reality was recognised long ago by Winston Churchill. In The River War (1899) he wrote: “How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. … No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytising faith.”

After direct contact with Muslim Barbary pirates in 1786, who enslaved white American sailors – at least 21 in the initial 1785 captures of the ships Maria and Dauphin, with hundreds more over the following decades – Thomas Jefferson reported the ambassador’s words: “It was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise.”

Scholar Raymond Ibrahim has spent over two decades documenting this pattern. His books include Crucified AgainSword and Scimitar, and Defenders of the West. They place current conflicts in a historical framework of jihad and conquest. In March 2026, the Danish Free Press Society awarded him the Sappho Prize for his source-based scholarship on Christian persecution and Islamist violence.

Gatestone Institute reports confirm that more than 365 million Christians worldwide face high levels of persecution. Most cases occur in the 38 Muslim-majority countries among the 50 worst offenders. Nigeria sees monthly death tolls exceeding those in some war zones. Pakistan features forced marriages and blasphemy accusations. Syria and Iraq have seen ancient Christian communities decimated. Similar patterns appear across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

Conclusion

King Charles III’s record shows a clear and sustained priority for Islam and Muslims. From speeches praising Islamic wisdom as a “priceless gift” while criticising Western materialism, to practical support such as packing dates for Ramadan and hosting the first Windsor iftar, his commitment stands apart. This focus receives no equivalent for Christianity.

His Christmas messages emphasise all faiths. He stayed silent on Nigerian Christian suffering.

Such actions are wholly at odds with his role as Prince of Wales and now as monarch. They represent a clear failure to fulfil his Coronation Oath. In that oath, he swore to uphold the Protestant Reformed Religion and maintain the Church of England.

As Sovereign of a Christian country, his special emphasis on an ideology that commands world domination, subjugation, forced conversion, jizya, death for apostasy, wife-beating, enslavement, hatred of non-Muslims, and deception cannot be reconciled with his duties. It is a betrayal of the British people and the Christian foundations of the realm he swore to defend.
