Freedom of Expression, Religion or Belief System Bill 2025: The most important event in this Parliament

The UK once held the reputation of being a bastion of Free Speech. You could say whatever you wanted, however offensive (including against the national religion, Christianity), provided this didn’t lead to actual violence. But, for now, Free Speech exists no more in Britain (with some exceptions that favour a particular narrative).

Since the 1960s the British State’s policy-making, directly influencing the way we live, has been invaded, influenced and captured by a long march of ideologically-driven activists and extremists through our public institutions.

Throughout this period, flagrantly breaching its statutory obligation of impartiality, the BBC has been the chief propaganda vehicle for Britain’s unwanted takeover by cultural Marxist, anti-Christian, anti-British ideologies.

The BBC, NHS, Civil Service, local councils and other public-funded bodies have abused their powers as they have compelled British People to worship at the shrine of political correctness, to accept and even publicly celebrate minority sexual preferences, deluding them to think that multiculturalism and diversity are strengths, and that changing weather and climate are the most serious threat to humanity.

The most recent and sinister of these assaults on our Democracy, Free Speech and Community Cohesion, with the blessing of the Starmer-Rayner Labour government, is a determined attempt to give special privileges to one ideology alone: Islam, with a “blasphemy’ law by the back door, uniquely for that belief system.

Not a shred of this policy-making represents the views of vast majority of British People.

Though long suffering and tolerant, many now are waking up to the reality that people in this country and from abroad are determined radically to change Britain.

Ordinary British folk of all ages and backgrounds, many uninterested in or disillusioned with politics and politicians, are anxious and aghast by the greatest threat to our freedoms and our way of life since another totalitarian regime sought to invade our shores and subjugate us to its tyranny. Britain stood then, initially alone, against the Nazi menace and, with her Commonwealth allies, defeated the foe. My father, in his early twenties, and many others served the cause of freedom in that terrible conflict. We should take heed from those events and those who gave so much to save our democracy.  We should not tread upon their graves.

For those who wish to use the loaded term, “Islamophobia” it should be pointed out that deep and serious concerns about Islam in the UK exist.  However, this is not in the form of a general hatred or hostility towards Muslims individually or collectively, as some suggest.

Nor are these concerns unfounded or irrational.

There is no fear of individual Muslims in Britain who respect our JudaeoChristian heritage, culture and identity and seek to live according to our laws and who express genuine loyalty to our nation.  What people sincerely and justifiably are anxious about is this ideology's stated goal of obtaining submission by all, and the actions it requires of its followers to achieve that goal.

There has been a recent example of Islam’s attitude towards those perceived as enemies. The Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a non-partisan research institute, along with numerous media, report that “Iran’s top Shia cleric, Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi, issued a fatwa, or religious edict, against President Donald Trump on June 29, calling on “Muslims of the world” to assassinate the U.S. leader.” (Source: Iranian Grand Ayatollah Issues Fatwa Calling for President Trump’s Murder)

Fear and anxiety about Islam is rooted in recorded history since the seventh century that reveals the extreme violence and enslavement carried out by its followers, first in the Middle East, Asia Minor (now Turkey) and North Africa, and then in Europe.

One of the most eminent authorities on this is Raymond Ibrahim, a widely published author and public speaker specializing in the Middle East and Islam. His 2018 Amazon Best Seller Sword and Scimitar chronicles the decisive battles that arose from this ages-old Islamic jihad, beginning with the first major Islamic attack on Christian territory in 636, through the Muslim occupation of nearly three-quarters of Christendom, which prompted the Crusades, followed by renewed Muslim conquests by Turks and Tatars, to the European colonization of the Muslim world in the 1800s, when Islam largely went on the retreat--until its reemergence in recent times.”

In a democratic and free society, that Britain continues to be constitutionally, though at present not wholly so in practice, there can be no bar on freedom to scrutinise, debate, discuss, criticise and challenge. Islam cannot occupy a special category.

Britain is a Christian country, yet the Blasphemy law  that had been in place for Christianity was repealed in 2008.  There is no justification for reintroducing such a law for Islam.

Nick Timothy MP is among a number of public figures helping to save Britain from its ill-intentioned and deceived political leaders.   He has introduced a “Freedom of Expression, Religion or Belief System Bill”, the most significant event of this tragically failing Parliament.

The Bill’s Second Reading is on 11 July 2025 and all who are concerned about Free Speech in the UK are encouraged to contact local MPs, media, friends, colleagues and to share widely on social media to ensure Parliament knows that Britain wants to keep Free Speech: permanently.

This is not a drill. Our country needs us.
